Troop 91! Providing 80 continuous and fun filled years of Scouting is a very impressive accomplishment! Orcutt Post 534 is proud of our association with the programs of the Boy Scout of America and especially our association with Troop 91. Troop 91 is one of the oldest units in the Los Padres Council and is the oldest unit in the Santa Maria Valley. Troop 91 meets the “Scout Hut” located on Orcutt Union School District property since the 1940’s. Recent concerns over building may result in the Scouts losing the use of the hut. A new meeting place is being investigated There will be several fund-raising events held specifically to help defray the cost of the 80th. Anniversary celebration during the next few months. A yard sale will be held on Saturday, April 26. The location and time are still being selected. A Pancake Breakfast will be held at our Post on Sunday, May ?? from 8 to 11:30 a.m. to help fund the anniversary celebration. This meal will be heavily staffed by Boy Scouts from Troop 91. These events will support Troop 91’s 80th. Anniversary Celebration. In addition to the support our Post gives these events they will also receive support from the Troop 91 families and the Scouting community in general. |

In the wake of the ACLU efforts stop military bases and units from sponsoring Boy Scout troops, we were inundated by an enormous outpouring of support from our friends in the armed forces. You would not believe the number of calls the BSA received from active duty and retired military who were heartbroken by the assault on the Boy Scouts by the ACLU. The BSA felt they had to do something to say thank you and to demonstrate how much our relationship with America's men and women in uniform means to Scouting. The result was this tribute to the military from the Boy Scouts of America.
Orcutt Post 534 is the Chartered Organization for Boy Scout Troop 91 and Cub Scout Pack 91. As the sponsors of Troop 91 and Pack 91 we encourge and support their efforts to provide a great Scouting program to the children of our community. The aims of the Boy Scouts of America is to develop character, participating citizenship, and physical & emotional fitness. As time and energy allow we plan to develop pages on the post web site for Troop 91 and Pack 91 so they can share their information with the families involved with their units and the members of our Post. This will include a calendar page for each unit to help everyone know what great activities these units our providing for their Scouts. Maybe we can get a short update from the units now and then to put into the Old Town Report. |
